Texture of Memories

"The texture of memories and the texture of dreams are curiously similar.” - Teju Cole

The Texture of Memories is a series examining my family history. The women's lineage in my family traces back to Trinidad and Tobago, which has the largest natural deposit of oil pitch globally. This series focuses on what can be brought over and passed down in a family though generations and what can follow. The black oil is a symbol for this concept of history slowly but continuously reasserting itself in the present. It is used as a reoccurring theme throughout, seeping through generations of women and manifesting  itself in the everyday.
